Ramleela Beats Race 2 And Grand Masti At The Box Office

Saturday, 30 November 2013 - 0 Comments

Ramleela by the conclusion of its second week at the box office raked up a cumulative collections of 103 crores. Earning consistently in the range of 1 crore, the film now stands at an overwhelming amount of 103 crores in merely 2 weeks’ run at the domestic box office.

Ramleela Beats Race 2 And Grand Masti At The Box Office

The film with that topples over both Race 2 and Grand Masti’s Lifetime run at the box office. With Race 2sealing up its total collections at 102 crores and Grand Masti at 102.50 crores, Ramleela has now surpassed both at the domestic box office. Ramleela by end of its Friday collections is also expected to defeat the lifetime moolah of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Though the official figures are still being compiled, there is a solid chance the film will not wrap up its lifetime collections in its 3rd week as well.

Saturday 23rd November Collections | Singh Saab The Great, Gori Tere Pyar Mein, Krrish 3 and Ramleela

Sunday, 24 November 2013 - 0 Comments

Singh Saab The Great on its 1st Saturday showed a marginal pick up at the box office. According to early estimates, the film earned in the range of 10 crores to 12 crores on Saturday. While the film’s first day performance wasn’t exemplary, this one was specifically fashioned keeping in mind tastes of single screen audiences. The film has so far earned in the range of 15 crores to 17 crores at the domestic box office. Though the official figures are still being compiled, the numbers will remain in the same range.

Anil Sharma and Sunny Deol’s association has always worked wonders at the box office. This time too, the duo have tried to create magic by keeping the film simple and impactful. Though the box office performance of the film won’t be mesmeric, it will surely be on the better side.

Saturday 23rd November Collections | Singh Saab The Great, Gori Tere Pyar Mein, Krrish 3 and Ramleela

Gori Tere Pyaar Mein remained low at the box office as compared to the other films running alongside. WhileSingh Saab The Great was wonderful in many circuits like UP, Delhi- NCR, CI, Berar and Rajasthan, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein thjat was targeted mainly at the multiplexes suffered a beating from last week’ film Ramleela that is impressing all and sundry. As per early estimates, the film on its 1st Saturday earned in the range of 6 crores. Though the figures are still being compiled, the film has far made an income in the range of 9.50 crores at the domestic box office. The dull response is alarming because the film belongs to a genre that is relatable to a large chunk of young India. There is little chance that the film will show any pick up on Sunday thus stagnating its first weekend amount in the lower range. Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan have been amply praised for their work but the film will find it difficult to soar at the box office with such an underwhelming beginning.

Krrish 3 till the end of its 4th weekend is on the verge of dwindling at the box office. The film that earned with a relentless gusto has made 240.10 crores so far. The film’s collections are now ranging with 30 lacs to 40 lacs daily signifying that it has run its due course at the box office.

Ramleela Week 1 Box Office Collections

Friday, 22 November 2013 - 0 Comments

Ramleela has done tremendously well at the box office. While the writing was clear on the wall after weekend itself that the film would stay stable during the weekdays, the kind of moolah that it collected has been unbelievable, what with 82 crore coming in one week flat. Now these are indeed excellent collections for a film where the leading man’s biggest success so far (Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl) had fallen short of 40 crore while the director too hadn’t seen such kind of collections for a film of his.
The film has truly resurrected Sanjay Leela Bhansali in a major way because though he has seen a bigger success (Rowdy Rathore) as a producer, the true challenge was to deliver as a director. This has happened now and his next film would be truly awaited.

Ramleela Week 1 Box Office Collections

There was a lot that that the film had to accomplish in one week flat since Gori Tere Pyaar Mein! and Singh Saab The Great would take up a good chunk of multiplex and single screens respectively. In that regard, while 100 crore is all set to be scored by producers Eros and Bhansali, it would be interesting to see how far does it go from here.
Meanwhile Deepika Padukone has turned out to be the only actor ever to have delivered four centuries in the making in a single calendar year. No other hero or heroine has ever managed to do that ever since the 100 crore club came into existence!
As for Rajjo, the film couldn’t start well and there was nothing going for it after the initial reports started coming by. With word of mouth not really helping the cause either, the Kangana Ranaut starrer has folded up at the 2 crore mark.

Ramleela Does Well On 1st Monday At The Box Office

Tuesday, 19 November 2013 - 0 Comments

Ramleela began the box office journey with a whopping start on weekday. Earning 8.60 crores on its 1st Monday, as per early estimates, the film will now stand at a cumulative income of 61.20 crores approximately.

Despite withstanding heavy pressure from Krrish 3 along with the controversial release the film faced, it has been performing phenomenally well at the box office in both domestic and international markets. The film’s run so far is seeming confident and it can be expected to tread into the hit zone if it maintains its consistent earning spree at the box office.

Ramleela Opening Weekend Collections - Great Start

Monday, 18 November 2013 - 0 Comments

It was predicted in this column last week that Ramleela would take an opening in the range of 50%-60% and bring in around 15 crore on the first day. This is exactly how it happened as Ramleela brought above our predictions i.e. 15.85 crores on Friday and then further gained strength over the weekend with good footfalls coming in across the country. As a result, over 52.60 crore were earned in the opening weekend itself, hence bringing the film in the safe zone and a sure-shot hit in the making. All that remains to be seen now is the distance that it would cover in days to follow.

Ramleela Opening Weekend Collections - Great Start

As things stand today, the collections should be good on weekdays as well since audience feedback has ranged from decent to good while critical acclaim has been quite positive across most quarters. Moreover, the industry too has shown support towards this film which means all that Ramleela needs to do is build on the positive stage and setting that it has received.

There are also some interesting statistics at play here. The film is not just Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s biggest opener till date (and his first success after Saawariya and Guzaarish) but also the highest lifetime earner in three days flat after surpassing Devdas (33 crore) and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (20 crore). Of course these films were released many years ago and inflation comes into account as well. Still, in absolute numbers, Bhansali has seen big money flowing in after years.

Ramleela picked up on Second Day (Day 2) Saturday Collections

Sunday, 17 November 2013 - 0 Comments

Ramleela on its second day i.e. 1st Saturday opened to a fiery start at the box office. Early estimates suggest that the film’s second day collections are in the range of 17.5-18 crores. The actual figures of the film are still being compiled and that might vary the collection as well. As of now, the film has so far made a hefty earning in the range of 33.35-33.85 crores at the domestic box office.

Ramleela picked up on Second Day (Day 2) Saturday Collections

Hailed by critics as one of the best film of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, this one came across as a potent commercial film with a high entertaining value. Claiming a good command over both multiplexes and single screens, the film’s good start will be instrumental in taking it a long way at the box office.
Ramleela should stand in the range of 50 crore opening weekend, if it picks up on Sunday!

Ramleela Review at BollyTamasha - It is a One time Watch

Saturday, 16 November 2013 - 0 Comments

PLOT

The film tracks the story of Ram (Ranveer Singh) and Leela(Deepika Padukone) who belong to two feuding families, surrounded by the constant animosity of the long drawn enemity, in the prevailing aura of violence and bloodshed. On the day of holi, Ram sneaks into Leela’s house. The two meet and fall in love. They two escape away soon to get married but are soon dragged back home creating further odds in their love story.

So do Ram and leela finish their love story and live happily ever after?

SCRIPT

Set on the backdrop of Gujarat, the film is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s imaginative take on Shakespeare’s most popular play Romeo and Juliet. I must say the movie is a good adaption of the novel but it really lacks screenplay. The movie has a very weak screenplay especially in the post interval portion the movie lacks the love part of it. The dialogues are great but not of Bhansali standard. The movie reminds you of Devdas as the titles start but the dialogues are nowhere close to Devdas.

Ramleela Review at BollyTamasha

STAR PERFORMANCES

Ranveer Singh is perfect as Ram. Born into a violent family with warring opponents, he gives Ram a lingering charm. I have never been a fan of his acting but the gusto and the energy with which he plays every scene, every frame is so effervescent that he is nothing short of superlative.

Deepika Padukone matches Ranveer’s brilliance with her own fiesty and enthusiastic performance. It is becoming a norm that every time you see Deepika on screen, you feel she has become better than her last stint. She looks breathtaking in most scenes to her credit and more than her fiery nature and robust character, she gives Leela elegance and strength in equal measures.

Their chemistry demands much to the script but it clicks only in the first half of the film. The post interval portion contains no chemistry in it.

MUSIC AND DIRECTION

Music of the movie is Outstanding. It is the only factor which  makes you happy at the end. All the goodness of the first half gets to zero once movie progresses in the second half. I must say the movie could have done better but it is really worst. The direction and cinematography is good. But the weaker screenplay makes it go in vain.

LAST WORD

I say it as a cinematography and music win but RAMLEELA is defnately not amonst the OUTSTANDING ones. For me it is a one time watch affair.
I would rate it 3 on 5.

Ramleela Day 1 Friday Box Office Collections

This week’s new release Ramleela managed to open at the Box Office on an impressive start, despite the legal controversy which disrupted its booking in several circuits in the country! As per early estimates Ramleela collected approx 15 crores on Day 1 i.e. on its 1st Friday at the Domestic Box Office.
It performed good in Multiplexes especially in Delhi, Mumbai, C.I and U.P circuits. The movie picked up exceedingly well in the late evening and night shows, but went a little low in the early evening shows, due to the crucial test match of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s final match.

Ramleela Day 1 Friday Box Office Collections

Nevertheless, the film’s music has been liked by all, besides the response to its trailer and other promos was good enough to garner audience’s interest to the theaters. A good pick up on Saturday and Sunday is expected.
Note: The actuals will soon be updated!

Ramleela Review by Taran Adarsh

Friday, 15 November 2013 - 0 Comments

With every film, Sanjay Leela Bhansali [SLB] takes the audience expectations to a higher altitude. The expectations from GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA are no less. The effervescent colors, the attention-grabbing visuals, the intense drama ingeniously intertwined in the screenplay, the alluring soundtrack and the electrifying chemistry between the lead pair has caught the attention of one and all. With GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA, SLB, one of the finest storytellers of our times, is all set to outclass himself...and also prove the skeptics and cynics wrong, who may've felt that he has lost his way while trying to court triumph.

You do know what to expect from an SLB film, since the supremely talented storyteller emits the right signals via the promos of his films. It's no different with GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA: SLB has stirred the audience imagination by attempting a love story amidst guns and roses. Sure, SLB is inspired by William Shakespeare's love saga 'Romeo and Juliet', but SLB makes sure he narrates the passionate love story of star-crossed lovers from warring families in his trademark individualistic style.

Ramleela Review by Taran Adarsh

Set in Gujarat, GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA is SLB's most 'commercial' film as a director. Also, his best work so far. Undoubtedly! It's the kind of film that you carry back with you. The hi-octane drama, the blazing guns, the passionate romance, the haunting melodies, the heart-melting emotions... SLB is an exceptional director with a remarkable vision and GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA only bolsters the actuality.

GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA narrates the story of Ram [Ranveer Singh] and Leela [Deepika Padukone]. The hostility and resentment between their families is an open secret, but as luck would have it, Ram and Leela fall in love. When truth dawns upon the respective families, a storm ensues, their worlds collide and a bloody battle occurs...Can Ram and Leela carve their destinies amidst abhorrence and slaughter?

Agree, we have witnessed Shakespeare's adaptation of 'Romeo and Juliet' innumerable times in the past, but SLB makes sure the execution of the written material -- also the way the screenplay [Siddharth-Garima and SLB] progresses -- is way diverse from similar storylines helmed by dream merchants here. The unconventionality he brings to every sequence, the colors he infuses in his frames, the aggressive lingo his characters mouth, the passion and sensuality he brings about in his characters, GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA not only has a spellbinding effect, but it ships you to an unfamiliar world absolutely. You may have an inkling of the plot, but you definitely don't know how SLB will give an altogether innovative twirl to the premise.

Celebrated for being a stickler for exactness and meticulousness, SLB makes sure his vision of narrating a story belonging to two warring families is never diluted by unwanted sub-plots or characters. One can gauge the premise at the very outset, but SLB never loses the focal point or deviates from it till the culmination. What unfurls is certainly going to catch a lot of people unaware, for sure.

Hiccups? Yes, the length could've been controlled, towards the latter reels specifically. However, it's a minor hiccup when one looks at the kind of effort that has gone into making every frame come alive.

One of the highpoints of GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA is, without doubt, its musical score [SLB, again]. Known for delivering musical gems in the past, the soundtrack of GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA is mesmeric, to put it in one word. Each of the songs befits the setting of the film, besides being seeped in melody. The fact that the tunes are on the loop says it all. 'Lahu Munh Lag Gaya', 'Nagada Sang Dhol Baaje', 'Ishqyaun Dhishqyaun', 'Tattad Tattad', 'Ang Laga De' and 'Ram Chahe Leela' are sure-fire hits already. Visually too, each of those songs is distinctively resplendent, with the choreography catching your eye as well. The background score [Monty Sharma] is top notch.

The DoP [Ravi Varman] captures SLB's vision exquisitely and every frame has the unmistakable stamp of flawlessness. The production design [Wasiq Khan] is striking. Action [Sham Kaushal] is absolutely in sync with the demands of the script.

Who would've ever imagined Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone to set the screen ablaze when GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA was announced? But the chemistry between the two is defining in every sequence, with the actors complimenting each other fantastically. Ranveer, seen in a completely new avatar, had impressed in his earlier endeavors, but he outshines himself in this one. He has surfaced as a much better actor than he ever was, letting himself free of his inhibitions and experimenting with a role that's actually intricate. He's simply flawless.

This is Deepika's year, for sure. Post RACE-2, YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI and CHENNAI EXPRESS, Deepika pulls yet another ace this time. Looking gorgeous as ever and cast in the most demanding role of her career thus far, she wins you over with an act that's unblemished. Actually, the confidence she radiates while portraying this part makes you wonder whether SLB and his writers Siddharth-Garima had penned this character keeping Deepika in mind. The audience is sure to go into raptures while watching Deepika in GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA.

Every actor in the supporting cast is simply wonderful. Supriya Pathak [outstanding], Homi Wadia [super], Gulshan Devaiah [brilliant], Richa Chadda [fantastic], Abhimanyu Singh [first-rate], Sharad Kelkar [competent], Barkha Bisht [very good] and Raza Murad [competent], each actor gives his/her best to the enterprise. Priyanka Chopra sizzles in the item number.

On the whole, GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA ought to be watched for multiple reasons: the electrifying chemistry between its lead actors, the strong dramatic content, the scintillating musical score, the violent streak in the narrative and of course, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's execution of the material. This is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's most accomplished work to date. It's a work of outstanding artistry. No two opinions about it. A masterpiece by the master craftsman Sanjay Leela Bhansali!
