Likely when the year is about to come to
a closure, Microsoft’s search engine Bing revealed the celebrity names
from India who topped as the most searched personalities on the
Internet. And strikingly, this year belonged to Dabangg Salman Khan, who charismatically scored the highest as his fans went click click on the web.
It is surprising to note that 2013, a
year when Salman had no film releases and no major commitment except the
Bigg Boss Season 7, which he has been hosting since the last four
seasons, was the year when he toppled all his contemporaries, despite
having any silver screen appearance! But he had ample reasons to be in
news, due to his court hearings, his health disorders, the constant
delaying of the schedules of Jai ho,
his back to back projects lined up from 2014 and obviously, the huge
controversy regarding Bigg Boss and his fairness being questioned in
public. And not to miss, his hugely hysteric first time debut on KJo’s
Koffee with Karan, which made quite a noise!
Following Salman Khan was as expected, Shah Rukh Khan, whose surrogate baby, and the Rohit Shetty entertainer Chennai Express kept him in news. While Chennai Express scored a double century with ease, thereby crossing the previous benchmark set by 3 Idiots, Shah Rukh kept on featuring in the news bulletin, like he always does. From Kolkata Knight Riders to his Happy New Year
shooting schedules and his stage concerts, Shah Rukh was a one man
show! But I would credit the entire hug and patch up euphoria at the
Iftar bash to have done the trick for both of them.
Following the two lead actors, is our top searched heroine, Katrina Kaif
who also strangely haven’t had any releases this year till now.
Although it’s a wait to see whether her year ends with a big, big Dhoom,
as of now, she can, for once be happy about her bikini pictures being
headlined and her furious letter to the Media, as it gave her the much
needed publicity, that too when she had nothing much to do. Plus her
hush-hush relationship with supposed beau Ranbir Kapoor
has been spoken about ever since they were spotted holidaying privately
in Spain! Although Katrina dodged the media glare for months before she
sportingly faced all the brickbats at the Dhoom Machale Dhoom launch, she definitely had reasons enough to stay in the news!
Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar topped the
list of sportspersons, as he stood tall on the 4th position overall. His
retirement from cricket had created a nationwide storm, a calamity
which cricket fans will feel the void of, for ages! Hence Sachin topping
that lost was more than expected. Also featuring in the Sports-persons
list was Virat Kohli, followed by Milkha Singh, whose life was adapted
into a terrific film called Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, hence his place was carefully cemented.
Coming to Bollywood films, while most of us would have expected a Krrish 3, Dhoom 3 or a Chennai Express to take the lead here, given its heavyweight budgets and prominent faces, it was the year’s first hit, Race 2 that went past all the others. Following Race 2 was SRK-Deepika starrer Chennai Express. Even Ashiqui 2, Grand Masti and Fukrey made it to the list!
And when it came to song, it was just Yo yo Honey Singh all the way. The rapper scored magic as his rendition, Lungi Dance took over the top spot beating the likes of Party on My Mind from Race 2 and Badtameez Dil from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
While Aamir, Hrithik, Ajay nd Akshay and
their films went totally missing from the list, it was definitely
Salman (among the heroes) and Katrina (among the heroines) who made the
perfect scoops for 2013, as it can be rightly put!
